The day has come, Calgary. Calaway Park has reopened for its 38th summer, thanks to a public-health order exemption made by Alberta Health Services.

This year, instead of encouraging the masses to spin, bump, slide, and eat their way through the grounds, they’re asking that people pre-book staggered visits in order to keep everyone as safe as possible.

In addition to timed entry, the park has taken several other precautions as well, like asking that guests wear masks in tight queue lines and closing certain rides. They’ve also placed ground markers to help people distance themselves and will be cleaning the place like mad.

This is both impressive, and concerning considering Calaway is actually the largest outdoor amusement park in all of Western Canada. That oughta be a lot of Lysol!

Technically, the amusement park should fall under stage 3 with other, similar businesses. However, according to the Calgary Sun, Calaway slipped through the cracks because of the park’s edge-of-city, outdoor location.

Today the park will only be accessible to seasons pass holders, then tomorrow they’ll swing their gates open to the general public. To book a time to check out the park, you can do so online here, but please be sure that you’re good and healthy before climbing aboard the Baja Buggies or any of their other topsy turvy thrill machines. Safety first, Calgary!  Be smart!
