Banff to set up education checkstops for travellers over Easter weekend

Thinking of heading to Banff for some fun this long weekend? Don’t! Unless you want to get schooled about the difference between essential and non-essential travel. The national park will actually be setting up “education checkstops” for people who are having a hard time understanding the importance of physical distancing.

Two stops will be set up by Mount Norquay and Banff Canada Road, just off the Trans Canada Highway. Both will be run by Park officials, RCMP officers and firefighters… and will make you feel pretty silly for leaving the house.

Technically, the Town of Banff is not closed, but it is advised by the government that everyone stays close to home especially if they don’t need to travel.

“The Town of Banff relies on visitation for our economy, and we feel people from the Calgary region are part of our community; this is their backyard getaway. But now is not the time for travel,” said Banff Mayor, Karen Sorensen about the “education checkstops.”

Ah, those Banff folks are so polite. Don’t make them feel like they have to be the bad guys, Alberta. Just stay the heck inside!
