Well, this should come as no surprise. After Calgary and Edmonton, both announced new masks rulings coming into effect on August 1st, Alberta’s biggest tourist town has followed suit. Beginning on Friday, July 31st, masks will be mandatory in indoor public spaces in Banff and along the ‘pedestrian zone’ on Banff Avenue.

The town council voted unanimously for the mask law to come into effect, which is kind of a no-brainer for a town like Banff. If you’re unaware of what the pedestrian zone is, it’s a strip of Banff Avenue that began restricting car access way back at the start of the pandemic.

Masks will be mandatory in Calgary’s indoor public spaces beginning Aug 1

Aritzia just came out with a line of adjustable, reusable face masks!

Masks will be required even at restaurants and patios along that strip, but you can take them off to eat and drink. The indoor public spaces that are excluded from the ruling include hospitals, schools, and daycares. Oh, and people playing sports or with underlying health conditions are exempt as well. Makes sense.

So, if you’re heading out to Banff anytime soon remember to mask up! If you break the bylaw you could be fined around $150, so don’t be foolish. Keep that cash for something better, folks.
