Alberta launches ‘AB Trace Together’ contract tracing app for COVID

Well, it’s here, folks! The Alberta Government finally launched its highly anticipated AB Trace Together App, meant to give people within the province peace of mind when they leave the house.

The contract tracing app uses Bluetooth as a sort of “digital handshake” while you’re out and about. Using the wireless service, it will scan for people around you for others with the installation; Then, with the help of AHS, the app will alert you if you’re near anyone with a confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus!

Of course, with any government-run app, people are going to get a little weird about their privacy, so it’s important to note that they have assured the public that they aren’t storing or using anyone’s personal information. The app only requires a phone number in order to set the whole thing up, so you don’t need to worry about being spied on, fam. We hope.

Also, the app is totally not mandatory. If you want to download it, cool. If not, that’s alright too! You’re not obligated! That means it’s voluntary for COVID patients (along with everyone else) to put in their info.

Although we requested an Apple-style reveal video, there were no turtle necks worn in the launch of this app, but there is a super informative video, that we’d highly recommend watching (above.)

The video will take you through exactly how to use the application whether you’re an iPhone or Android user. Also, visuals are always just super helpful, right?

The future is here, Alberta… and so is ‘contract tracing!’ Feel free to download the AB Trace Together App. Stay safe out there, kids!
