Got some big weekend plans? Heck, got big plans in the next few weeks? Well, those might be coming to a halt as the province’s top doctor has urged Alberta to cancel gatherings of 250 people or more effective immediately.

Obviously, this is a preventative measure in the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19). With four new cases announced Thursday, Alberta’s number of COVID-19 cases has climbed to 23.

So, what does this cancellation actually include? Well, this means that large sporting events, community events, big conferences, etc. are all on the immediate chopping block. In essence, any congregation of over 250 people in a designated space is a no-no.

That being said, places like shopping malls, places of worship, and grocery stores will carry on as per usual. Naturally, it’s recommended to practice good hygiene anywhere you go.

Now, the real question is what this means for nightlife! This isn’t yet an official order from the government, but you can expect that popular venues, concerts, and other event or party-oriented spaces will be taking necessary precautions.

Stay healthy, Calgary. And wash your friggin’ hands!
