Alberta grabs title as Canada’s top cannabis market

We have to say, we’re pretty surprised that Alberta has become Canada’s top cannabis market since legalization. Sure, we’re no squares, but to beat both Ontario and BC is something we didn’t expect.
With over $123M in sales, Alberta is beating Ontario by only a couple of million dollars. So, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that we will be overtaken in the next few months. But hey, it was nice while it lasted.

Apparently, the regulations surrounding legal dispensaries in each province had a serious impact on the markets. So, Alberta is blessed to have the AGLC allow and encourage private enterprise to operate, instead of being completely run by the government.
To that point, BC came in ninth, before PEI, Yukon and Northwest Territories. While the government has started to allow private dispensaries, it has been one of the most time consuming and obtuse processes across the country.
We wouldn’t be surprised that at a mere $19M in legal sales, BC has by far the largest black market in the country.
Which is no small number. According to BNN, roughly 80% of cannabis sold in Canada is illegal. Woah. We’re livin’ on the edge out here. What do you think about being Canada’s top cannabis market, Calgs?
