Whale, have we got a tale for you guys! Pardon our puns, but keep your eyes peeled, people! For the first time maybe ever, locals in Montreal have spotted a humpback whale swimming around in the St. Lawrence River.

The incredible gentle giant is seen in the video below, diving around the base of the Jacques-Cartier, and it’s absolutely unbelievable.

There’s no way to say for sure, but the marine mammal is thought to have swum all the way from salty waters of Todussac, a village in Quebec, after hungrily following some fish inland.

For those worried about him being so close to the shores of such a populated city, don’t fret, friends. He’ll be just fine as long as people are respectful.

Robert Michaud, the co-ordinator for the Quebec Marine Mammal Emergency Network, who spoke with CBC said that humpbacks can still live and thrive in freshwater, although the food definitely won’t be as healthy. Just in case though, the city said they are keeping a close eye on him and hope that he starts to head back home within the week.

Until then, to protect the humpback whale of Montreal, fines will be given out to anyone who gets within 100-metres of it. He’s lost and probably a little bit confused, so be nice. Remember, fish are friends!
