In the last few months, due to COVID, we’ve seen quite a few closures and they’ve all been exceptionally sad. But we’re not going to lie, guys, this one might have hit us the hardest. In a release sent to Curiocity, Two Penny, and its sister bar The Tea House, have announced that they will be closing their doors permanently.

“When the Covid-19 Pandemic struck, we were uncertain of what the future of Two Penny, The Tea House, and the restaurant business in general, would look like. The question of what the “new normal” is going to be is full of uncertainty,” they said.

“Not only were we dealing with a global pandemic, but also economic instability in our city and province. We were forced to evaluate our business and quickly made what we believe is the best decision.

Unfortunately, like so many other local to Calgary spots, 3-months of no business took its toll. Somehow, though, they remain optimistic and have been able to see the bright side in all of this. Calgary’s strong sense of community, quality time with loved ones, and saving money are only a few of the things they mention, and they’re absolutely right.

As a wise person once said, “when one door closes, another one opens” and this couldn’t be closer to the truth! Two Penny and the Tea House may be gone, but in their place, the group behind these Calgary hotspots has decided to relaunch as the brand new A1 Bodega & Café.

“Stay tuned for more info,” they said.  “And don’t worry, the familiar staff and faces of Two Penny will be back to greet you when we re-open.”

So don’t fret folks! Comedy night at The Tea House will live on in our memories, but be sure to make room for new ones at the Bodega! We can’t wait!
