Inside Cafe Alchemist, the new next-level coffee shop downtown

Calgary is practically powered by caffeine, so we’re not entirely surprised to be getting another coffee shop. Excited, but not surprised. YYC’s newest spot, Cafe Alchemist, has just opened its doors to the public and dang, does it look good!

The new cafe offers a variety of teas and dutch coffees, but unlike some of Calgary’s more familiar java joints, this cafe is devoted to exposing their customers to unique and unusually delicious flavours.

This place has globally-charged chef-inspired “cuisine,” which they describe as fast-casual food that pushes the boundaries. Their menu is small but mighty, and offers a selection of wraps and sandwiches that you can either take to go or eat in. But, unlike most cafes, they also offer more luxurious dishes, like their chicken confit. Seriously, how many coffee shops do you know that offer confit chicken?

All sauces, purees, spice mixes, and even most syrups are all made in house, which is extraordinary. This way, they have more control over how much of the good stuff is left in, and how much of the bad stuff, like preservatives and processed ingredients, are left out.
Cafe Alchemist’s modern 30-40 seat space is now open in the downtown core, and they talk a pretty big game, so we can’t wait to check it out!
