What is summertime without several ice cream runs?! Tis’ the season for frozen treats and waffle cones, but where to go? You could just go to your local convenience or grocery store and just by a litre of vanilla… or you could go to one of the cities top-notch shops. Really crush that craving, and melt with the spirit of the season by checking out one of the 10 best ice cream shops in Calgary.
LICS

Lics is a cute little, old school ice cream shop in the North East of Calgary. Unlike the majority of places we’ve added on this list, these guys are less about the show and more about the flavour. Don’t get us wrong, occasionally we crave the Insta-cream experience, but most of the time, we just want a simple scoop of something tasty and good service. For this reason, this is one of our favourites.

MADE BY MARCUS

You already know! Made By Marcus is a beloved Calgary dessert shop with a cult-like following. It’s not uncommon that you’ll see an insanely long line down the block, full of people waiting to get a scoop of their good stuff at their 17th Avenue location. MBM uses only natural ingredients and has some of the cookiest flavours. Check their latest seasonal flavour, peanut butter and dill pickle. Yes, Really.

VILLAGE ICE CREAM

Village is another Calgary favourite. With three locations under its belt (and one on the way!) this ice cream spot has come up with some incredibly tasty flavours. Their ever-changing menu keeps things interesting, but their friendly service and community spirit remain pretty constant.

V BURGER

Shoutout to our fellow lactose-sensitive ice-cream lovers. V Burger is a newer kid on the block, but they know damn well what they’re doing. Here, you can get a dairy-free ice cream sandwich, a milkshake, sundae, or VMix, which we would compare to a dairy queen blizzard. Trust us, your stomach will thank you.
Where: 819 – 17 Ave SW, Calgary
DELLOR

We’ll be real, rolled ice cream, no matter how it tastes, is just a lot of fun. Dellor however, tastes pretty great. It’s a lighter dessert, which we love and they have some incredible flavours. Our favourites are the Cà Phé and their summer 2020 seasonal flavour, Salted caramel crunch,

LA DIPERIE

Love yourself a good topping on your ice cream? How about 30? This Montreal based dessert shop is absolutely insane. Try hundreds of combinations, from sweet and salty to fruity in a cup or a cone. Once you’ve tried them all, they also have cakes, donuts, and a DIY chocolate bar station.
Where: 519-500 Country Hills Boulevard NE, Calgary
UZU TAIYAKI

Uzu Taiyaki is a one-of-a-kind dessert experience. You literally won’t find anything like this anywhere else in Calgary. At Uzu, the ice cream is soft, the toppings are aplenty, and the fun is inevitable but the selling point here really is their adorable fish-shaped cones. This place is as photogenic as it gets.

MY FAVOURITE ICE CREAM SHOP

These guys opened back in 1981, which means they’ve had a ton of time to perfect the art of scoopin’ and customer service. If their 72 flavours don’t win you over immediately, their retro decor and lovely staff definitely will. We won’t lie, our loyalty lies with the blueberry cheesecake so we haven’t really explored the menu, but those who have, typically give it all glowing review.

XO ICECREAM

XO is a super cute spot with ice cream, waffles, milkshakes, AND cakes. They’re really in the business of cravings, and it shows. Not only is their menu magically delicious, but their decor is bright, bubbly, and fun. Trust us, you won’t regret checking them out.

LUKE’S DRUG MART

Alright, so it’s not technically an ice-cream shop, but it’s hard not to include this delectable and very Instagrammable soft-serve on our list. They have rotating flavours of both soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt, so keep an eye on their Instagram page to know what you can get and which location you can get it at!
