The 2019 Calgary Stampede roundup by the numbers

Well, we’ve yee’d our last haw and ya’d our last hoo. The 2019 Calgary Stampede has officially ended. Whether you’re relieved, sad, or indifferent, there is no denying the impact the Stampede has on this city year after year. With that in mind, let’s take a quick look at some of the numbers that made the 2019 Calgary Stampede one to remember!
1,275,465
That is the total number of attendees at this year’s Calgary Stampede and the second-highest attendance of all time. Nicely done, Cowtown!
127,000
Not only did the Stampede manage to hit the second-highest attendance ever, it also set a couple of daily records. Most importantly, the opening day (Friday, July 5) saw a record-breaking 127,000 people hit the grounds.
549 Metres
That’s how long Nik Wallenda walked along a high-wire above the Stampede grounds, setting a new world record. Congrats, but yikes.

$250 Million
What’s that huge number for? Oh, just the economic benefit and relaxed tax revenue for the city, province, and country generated by the Stampede.
$100,000
The cash prize claimed by Sage Steele Kimzy for winning the overall Bull-Riding Championship. It’s his third Stampede win and with a name as badass as that we expect he’ll win a few more.
0.003 seconds
That was the difference between first and second place in the barrel racing competition, where Lisa Lockhart managed to snag her second Calgary Stampede title. That’s three one-thousandths of a second between $100k and $25k.
6
The most unfortunate number of the Stampede. There were 6 horses that needed to be euthanized after accidents or injuries during the Chuckwagon races this year. Obviously, any number higher than zero is heartbreaking.
Sorry to end on a somber note there folks. But hey, the Calgary Stampede can’t always be sunshine, too many drinks, fried food, and daisies! Until next year.
