Hey there, Calgary. It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time to get strange! 2020 is off to an interesting, wacky start. Honestly, we’re kinda living for it. Humans are just fascinating, aren’t they? Now, without further adieu, here are the 8 weirdest things happening around Calgary this week!
Nicolas Cage’s Birthday Party
On January 7th, 1964, the world received the greatest gift. A true National Treasure was born. In honour of Nicolas Cage’s *ahem* talent, and to celebrate the upcoming Nicholas Cage movie about Nicholas Cage, starring Nicholas Cage, the Oak Tree Lounge is throwing an all-out birthday bash.
When: Tuesday, January 7th
Where: The Oak Tree Lounge, 124 10th Street NW, Calgary
Time: 6 PM – 2 AM
Cost: FREE
Inaudiable Headphone Party
Speakers are so 2019. Welcome to the future, where the party is broadcast through wireless headphones and the room is silent. Tune in to DJ Teddy Celebration or DJ Sky Millz, who will be playing everything from the 80s to now. Dance yourself into Saturday… but like, quietly and kind of by yourself.
When: Friday, January 10th
Where: 1301 16th Avenue, Calgary
Time: 7 PM – 10 PM
Cost: FREE

Full Moon Ceremony
Gongs, drums and singing bowls. This event is supposed to “clear away stagnant energy and rejuvenate your system,” and it might, but it will probably also give you a wicked headache in the process. Sounds relaxing.
When: Friday January 10th
Where: 280, 7015 Macleod Trail, Calgary
Time: 7 PM – 8:30 PM
Cost: $38
Bend and Brew
We’re almost on board with this one. Say “beer” and we practically appear out of thin air! Although, we might still be in bed because this freaking event is at 10 AM on a Saturday. Is this even legal?
When: Saturday, January 11th
Where: Inner City Brewing – 820 11 Avenue Southwest, Calgary
Time: 10 AM – 11 PM
Cost: $20
Snowga
Yoga cannot be that interesting if you have to add beer (as seen above). Especially not when you add freezing your nips off into the mix. Let’s bend ourselves into a pretzel and hum in the snow! Why? The answer is why the heck not. What’s relaxing yoga speak for “call 911?” We just want to be prepared.
When: Sunday January 12th
Where:24 St SW, Calgary
Time: 12 PM – 12:45 PM
Cost: FREE
