Uh oh…You can now use Instagram to make TikTok-like videos

As if the world needed yet another place where celebrities, parents, and 12-year-olds alike could wear crop tops and lip-sync to one-hit wonders. Instagram has just launched Reel, an in-app feature similar to the mega-popular platform TikTok.
Reel will now let users record 15-second videos, edit, and post them for 24 hours to their story. Recording a video is incredibly easy. All you have to do is select ‘Reels’ at the bottom of the Instagram camera, select audio, let it count down, and record either all at once or in a series of separate clips. For fancier high-quality videos, use align, add visual effects, or adjust the speed. Familiar?

To watch an Instagram Reel, head over to the explore page and click on the dedicated ‘Reel’ tab. Again, just like TikTok, with a single click, serial scrollers will be able to view hundreds of recordings all in one place. Oh, you thought Instagram was time-consuming before? Cute.
“Reels gives people new ways to express themselves, discover more of what they love on Instagram, and help anyone with the ambition of becoming a creator take center stage,” the app said in the announcement.
Ah, Instagram. Just when the world feels like it’s at a standstill, we can always count on you to evolve in a major way. Here’s to the next generation of curiously talentless celebrities, future earworms, and problematic challenges, dances and trends that we’ll no doubt attempt to recreate alone after a few living room beers!
Now, if you excuse us, we have hours of brand new content to hate-watch. Enjoy, fellow internet users.
