Canadian Screen Awards

This awards season has already been quite the ride. We kicked things off with the Golden Globes, which was followed by The Grammys and then the Oscars. We have yet to celebrate film and television with a focus on the best in Canada, but before we get our night to shine, we have some important business to attend to! The Canadian Screen Awards released their nominations this morning and to the surprise of no one, northern smash, Schitts Creek led the way.

The CBC original turned continental phenomenon cashed in a record breaking 26 nominations including nods for Best Comedy Series; Best Writing, Comedy and Best Direction, Comedy. The Creek cleaned up this year, folks. Not a bad send-off for their last season!

But that’s not to say there aren’t others worthy of winning the bigger titles of the evening! Anne with an E was mentioned in 13 categories overall, while Kim’s Convenience snagged 8 nominations. Not too shabby!

“Whether our nominees are household names or not as well known, we are privileged to celebrate their achievements at the Canadian Screen Awards,” said CEO of ACCT, Beth Janson in the official news release.

Nominations were carefully selected by the Canadian Academy, who will also contribute to choosing winners in each category. Awards will be presented in Toronto during the Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala which airs on CBC and the CBC Gem streaming service on Sunday, March 29 at 8 pm.

Film buffs and series bingers won’t want to miss it!
