Netflix is testing a new ‘shuffle episodes’ feature

Via Junkee

Netflix knows that some of its available series are watched over and over and over again, so why not add to the fun and randomly select episodes for viewers? Despite the seemingly incessant flow of movies and series of seriously debatable quality, it seems that enough of us stick to the classics and favourites for most of our streaming habits.

Well, it looks like Netflix has noticed, and they may be introducing a ‘random next episode’ feature to spice things up a little.

We’re going to go ahead and call this the Netflix Shuffle, by the way. So if the streaming giant keeps that title, know you heard it here first. (We’ll also be looking for our royalties, of course).

Netflix testing Shuffle Feature

We’re talking the usual suspects, Friends, The Office, Arrested Development, New Girl and more. Sure, you can practically recite every episode word for word, but catching episodes in random order might spark a new level of engagement. Guess we’ll see!

If Netflix Shuffle sounds like a familiar idea, that’s because it is. If you grew up watching cable TV, you would probably catch re-runs of your favourite shows night after night in no particular order of episode.

It might sound like the Wild West of TV programming to the younger folks, but there was consistent magic to be found in not knowing what cold-open would hit you after the credits rolled. Imagine the possibilities!

In a conversation with Deadline, Netflix revealed that the testing phase might not become a permanent feature, but we’re hopeful.

We’ll keep an eye out on any advancements on the Netflix Shuffle, but in the meantime, enjoy your straightforward bingeing, couch potatoes.
