Otafest 2019
Did you even know that Calgary has a festival devoted to Japanese pop culture? No? Well, we do, and it goes down this weekend. Get ready for three full days of high energy activities, including a drag show! Time to find your waifu.

Go sailing
Garage-sailing, that is! Ha, nice, aren’t we clever. Deer Run has graciously put their parade of garage sales on Facebook, so get ready for some bargain hunting. You know the saying- one person’s junk is another’s treasure.

Go Downhill Karting
The Skyline Luge at Winsport reopens this weekend for the speed freaks out there. We don’t recommend going while it’s snowing, but, that shouldn’t stop you from checking it out Sunday or Monday instead.

Celebrate the Game of Thrones finale
Hot take- the final season of Game of Thrones might go down as the most disappointing in television history. But, that shouldn’t stop you from going and having a laugh at Telus Spark in anticipation of the finale. An iron throne to sit on, Westerosi food, medieval fights, and full access to the rest of the building. Not so bad at all.

Eat some waffles
Fan favourite Buttermilk is hosting a weekend-long popup for everyone who wants to get their day started on the best foot. Think daily drink specials, and a new sandwich that includes mac & cheese. Woah nelly.
When: Friday, May 17 to Monday, May 20

And just when you think the weekend is over and the fun has to come to an end, YYC Food Trucks is here to cure your FOMO with the ultimate Taco Takeover next weekend at ContainR in Sunnyside! The event takes place from 11am- 7pm both Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th! 14 of your fav food truck vendors will be competing for the title of “Best Taco”, so come hungry, ’cause there’s gonna be quite a bit of tasting to do.
Amongst all the eats, there will be Mariachi bands, piñata parties, live music, and DJs! The entry is $5 at the door, but you only pay once, so all the more reason to go both days! Long weekends are hard to top but if there’s good weather and a food event, we have zero complaints.
