Calgary tops Canada’s newest “places to live” rankings

Despite the political turmoil, the economic uncertainty, and plenty of general disagreements, people in Calgary still seem to like each other. At least, that’s what a new report from RE/MAX and Leger has found. Apparently, people all across Canada really, really like where they live. They like it so much, in fact, that 89% of them would recommend their neighbourhoods to potential homebuyers. Keep up the friendly work, Canada.
The ranking polled Canadians on a variety of factors, each pertaining to a different idea of what makes a neighbourhood great. Here is what Canadians were asked to consider:
- Availability of work/access to employment opportunities
- Availability of public transit
- Access to green spaces and parks
- Availability of big and small retail stores
- Economic development
- Population growth
- Number of top rated/preferred schools
- Housing supply
- Housing affordability
- Access to healthcare facilities
- Easy access to bike lanes and/or walking paths
It’s a pretty standard list when it comes to what you look for in a community, but when we heard that Calgary topped 7 out of those 11 categories we felt a pretty big swell of pride. This is by no means a definitive report, but it certainly reminds us that Calgary is one of the best places to live in Canada (and the world, no doubt).
Calgary certainly has made a point of expanding green spaces, increasing bike routes/walking paths, and encouraging people to support local businesses, so we aren’t too surprised. But hey, give yourselves a little pat on the back, Calgary, things aren’t so bad after all.
