Howdy, Calgary! Stampede season came and went without so much as a “yahoo”, but the event’s organizers are still working mighty hard behind the scenes! In fact, this morning chuckwagon fans got quite the announcement.

Out of concern for the “safety and stability” of The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth’s iconic Rangeland chuckwagon event, this bad boy will actually be downsized in 2021.

Every year since 1980, 36 wagons have competed in the showcase, but come next summer only 27 will be able to hit the track.

This means that Calgarians will now only see three wagons per nine heats as opposed to four, making it a heck of a lot easier on the eyes, and more importantly, on the animals.

In addition to this, the Calgary Stampede will also install light-weight arms along the inside railing of the track (creating a buffer zone between the wagons and the fence) and they will implement detailed pre-race inspections on all horses.

So what do you think, Calgary? Do you think this was a long time coming or will you miss the traditional format of the races? Let us know!
