Ever see one of those fancy self-driving cars and think, “I wonder if the driver ever takes a snooze,” and then spend the rest of your drive in anxious denial because the advancement of technology is all too much, and the thought of sharing a lane with someone taking a nap is terrifying. No? Well, that’s about to change, because it happened. Some nut driving through Alberta was just charged after the RCMP caught him going 150/kph in his sleep despite a speed limit of 110/kph.

In July of this year, a 20-year-old BC man from behind the wheel of the Model S Tesla was caught speeding down the highway near the town of Ponoka after concerned passerby’s had alerted the Alberta RCMP. Little did they know that when they were called to the vehicle they’d have to make a wake-up call.

Also, side note: before you guys sympathize because “maybe he just dozed off,” we say nay-nay. He didn’t just doze off guys, he fully committed to his siesta. Buddy and his passenger (he had a passenger!) were both fully reclined at the time.

Initially, he was just given a 24-hour license suspension, but Alberta basically said ‘hell no’ and will be seeing him in court mid-December for dangerous driving.

Ah, what a world we live in. Luckily, no one hurt – but let this be a lesson. Sleep when you’re dead… not when you’re wealthy enough to drive a Tesla.
