Central Library makes Arch Digest futuristic libraries list

It’s pretty obvious to all Calgarians that our city’s cool, but we just had it verified by an outside source. Architectural Digest (AD) just named our new Central Library as one of the world’s top 9 futuristic spots, so keep reading for the rundown on their article!

That’s right, the world’s official international design authority just gave us a major shoutout. Praising the fact that libraries have transformed from quiet book sanctuaries to complete social spheres, AD named the best ones in all the land… and we made the cut.
In their glowing review, AD praised the library’s “arch-shaped Chinook cloud formations”, its unique hexagonal patterns, and its “sustainably sourced western red cedar interiors”. But our new spot isn’t just being admired for its looks.

The article goes on to say that the sleek digital learning lab’s focus on gaming, podcasting programs, and “making” is impressive, too. AD’s impressed by our city’s culture of creativity and innovation, and the fact that we’ve got lots of gorgeous Indigenous artwork to show off. Basically, the magazine’s just as in love with the new library as we are… and we can’t really blame ‘em.
