June 13th’s hail storm rocked Calgary, causing millions in damages for businesses, homes, and vehicles. But today, as announced by Premier Jason Kenney, those affected will be able to apply for financial relief through the new provincial disaster recovery program.
Falconridge, Taradale, and the southwest corner of Airdrie were hit pretty hard by the storm. Hail and wind ripped the siding clean off of houses, and windows were shattered by egg-sized pieces of ice. Unfortunately not all that was totally wrecked will or can be covered by insurance companies, which is where the assistance comes in!

“We will expedite a package to help cover uninsurable loss and damages and costs incurred by the cities of Calgary, Airdrie, and Rocky View County,” said Kenney
There were reportedly between $250 million and $500 million in damages, and because many are out of a job right now due to the pandemic, some were right to be worried about picking up the pieces. What happened was insane, but we’re glad to see something be done!
If you would like to apply for the provincial disaster recovery program, it will be open from June 29th to September 23rd on the government’s official website here! Stay strong out there, Calgary! Our hearts are with you!
