City Council is considering adding an LRT line to the Calgary Airport

It’s only been a few days since City Council approved the Green Line LRT, and already they’re talking about adding another line of transportation, this time to the Calgary Airport.
The project, which was revealed in Wednesday morning’s meeting, will cost the city around $1.8 billion dollars, but wouldn’t come into fruition for several years, as they would still need to extend the Green Line to the North and they’d need to complete the Blue Line.

So why are we hearing about this before they’ve even broken ground on the Green Line project? Well, according to Councillor Jeff Davidson of Ward 6, “It’s really important to have these conversations now to hope to get to a solution sooner rather than later.”
“How would we extend the Blue Line? How would we extend the Green Line? How do we connect the airport to all these things?” he said.
For inspiration, they’ve been looking to transit systems in cities like Vancouver where they also have an automated vehicle to transport passengers from the train to the airport. This is another thing they’ll be discussing going forward.
Of course, this Calgary airport transportation project will take some time, but as we hear more, we’ll keep updating you guys. Stay tuned!
