Well, folks, looked like we all jumped the gun a bit when it came to Calgary reopening. In an announcement made Wednesday afternoon, Premier Jason Kenney revealed that while most of Alberta will be relaunching on schedule, Calgary and Brooks will have their own timeline.
In fact, Calgary and Brooks will have about half the businesses reopened on Thursday, May 14th compared to the rest of the province.

Things like clothing stores and bookstores, farmers’ markets, and art galleries are all cleared. However, we’re going to have to wait until at least May 25th to see the reopening of restaurants and personal styling services.
The reason for the changing timeline is that Calgary and Brooks represent roughly 85% of the current COVID-19 cases across Alberta. As such, these areas are to be treated with extra care when it comes to reopening.
A bummer of an announcement, but we’re happy that the Albertan government is playing things safe. Looks like another week or so of wishing for summer activities, hey?
