As per Alberta’s reopening strategy, workers and businesses across the province will most likely participate in the first of 3 steps to relaunching Alberta’s economy amid the COVID pandemic this week. Here we go!

May 14th is expected to bring big moves and perhaps bigger reactions from the public as restaurants and cafes will reopen at 50% capacity and retail businesses resume operations. Barbers, hairstylists, museums, and art galleries can gradually open. Also, daycares will be able to open as long as they comply with occupancy limits.

Whether a spot opens or not on the 14th will be optional and will depend on the comfort level of the owners. We’ve actually seen this already in the case of Calgary’s Ship and Anchor Pub.

There’s no doubt that for those who do open, this Thursday will be hectic. It’ll be tempting to immediately jump right back into what we all considered ‘normal’ before all of this, but it’s not over! We’ve still got a long way to go, Alberta, but we can do this!

Jason Kenney has yet to announce a date for phase two of relaunching Alberta’s economy but we’ll keep you updated!

“Progression to Stage 2 will be determined by the success of Stage 1, considering health care system capacity, hospitalization and ICU cases,” they write on the Alberta Government website.

Wash your hands, remember to physically distance yourself and remain calm. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!
