Well, April showers bring May flowers! We’re taking that as a metaphor, and looking at the things to do this weekend through rose-tinted glasses. Get out and about in your city, learn something new at home… whatever you’re feeling, we’ve hopefully got you covered.

Here are 8 things to do at home and around Calgary this weekend.

Listen to some amazing books

Audible and Scotiabank have teamed up to give you 10 past winners of the Scotiabank Giller Prize. Award yearly, this prize recognizes the best fiction in Canada, and now you can listen to a selection of those books for free! Nice!

Check out Calgary’s distance-friendly art exhibit

This weekend, check out Calgary’s TrépanierBaer Art Gallery on 10th Avenue! These guys just launched a captivating outdoor exhibit so passersby’s can tickle their visual senses, and support local artists at a safe, responsible distance!

Or watch some movies

Maybe you’re getting bored with Netflix. Well, we rounded up some of our go-to streaming services when we find ourselves in the same boat. Sure, a couple of these picks are no-brainers, but a couple of there are hidden gems.

Treat yourself and buy a puzzle

But not just any puzzle, the Rolls-Royce of puzzles. We stumbled across Stave Puzzles by accident and spent roughly an hour figuring out how they got to be so darn expensive. We don’t have an answer, but hoo boy, at up to $8000 USD there must be something going on.

Attend Calgary’s virtual Jazz Festival

This weekend, virtually join fellow music lovers in celebrating the kick-off of the 2020 TD JazzYYC International Jazz Days Festival! Hosted by veteran artist and broadcast legend, Tim Tamashiro, the festival will run from April 30th to May 27th. Each set will run for approximately 60 minutes and feature a lineup of incredible musicians from all right here in Calgary and all over the world.

Check out a mainstream virtual concert

As always, we rounded up our favourite concerts going on this week for you to check out. Whether you’re looking for some country flare or want to experience a virtual festival, we’ve got the options for you.

Have a few drinks to support those in need

Stay the F**k at Home, is an ‘isolation friendly’ card game that includes ‘most likely to,’ questions, trivia, and truth or dare. It’s literally crafted to be enjoyed via FaceTime or Houseparty, with anywhere from 2 to over 20 players and all proceeds go towards Meals on Wheels!

Decide that you want to believe

This week, the Pentagon released videos of legitimate UFOs being shot down by military jets. Sure, a few people have been making this claim for a while (notably, Tom Delonge of Blink-182), but this week was the first official acknowledgement from a government source. SpooOOooOoooky.
