This could be pretty exciting, friends! The City has begun looking for a way to repurpose the Sixth Avenue Firehall, which is probably one of Calgary’s most prominent historical buildings.
Until last fall, the Firehall actually housed a rental car company. Now, after 30 years, they have decided not to renew the lease. The building has sat completely empty and if we’re being honest, pretty sinister-looking, despite its heroic past.
Even to the last tenants, parts of the building have been off-limits since the 1980s, so it looks a tad spooky, but they did mention that they plan on doing some restoration work.

The city is looking at both short-term and long-term uses for the building with provincial and municipal heritage status, so it will be pretty exciting to see what or who they chose to fill the space with!
We’ll keep you guys updated with all new information as it rolls in! Once the murals are all spiffed up we can imagine that the Sixth Avenue Firehall will, once again, be a beautiful, lively and unique space.
