Calgary’s distilleries are making hand sanitizer amid product shortage

Calgary’s distilleries: The dynamic unsung heroes of the COVID outbreak. Who would’ve thought! Several local businesses are currently making or working towards making sanitizer, a necessary but rare find, using the ethanol made during the distillation process.
If you’ve got it, use it! Skunkworks, a Moonshine distillery has made several bottles and is encouraging anyone in need come pick it up from their South East location. While Burwood Distillery is waiting for a stamp of approval to begin making the product.

Annex Ale has also gotten in on the sanitizer-games, seeing this as a way to stay helpful while bringing in enough money to keep their brewery afloat. Not a bad idea!
“We started making it this past weekend,” Faye Warrington of Skunkworks Distillery told CBC. “It’s a fantastic use for a distilled product that isn’t good enough to make the cut for our moonshine.”
All it takes is little ethanol, a moisturizing agent and maybe a little scent! Easy enough right? Just don’t go trying to make it by yourself at home. We don’t know you all personally, but we’re pretty sure some of you have no business messing around with chemical compounds and essential oils.
