5 of the weirdest things happening in Calgary this week

Whew, it’s a chilly one out there, Calgary. We read somewhere once that laughing or shaking from fear and confusion are great ways to warm yourself up. If we didn’t just totally make that up, our list of the 5 weirdest things happening in Calgary this week should do your body some good! Enjoy!
ROPE WORKSHOP
Honestly, we’ve seen too many movies to trust anyone that would need to know more than one way to tie a knot, but according to the event listing, this workshop exists only to “give you the ease of access into the world of rope.” There you go guys, rope has an entire world of its own and it requires ease of access.
When: Friday, January 17th
Where: 544 – 42 Ave SE, Calgary
Time: 8 PM – 11 PM
Cost: $15
BIG LEBOWSKI PARTY
Sometimes it’s just the people attending that land an event a spot on our list, not the event itself. The Big Lebowski is a cult classic starring Jeff Bridges that came out over 20 years ago. If you’ve never seen it, then you have no idea what the big deal is. If you have, you know that this party will be all severed toes and middle aged dudes in robes.
When: Saturday, January 18th
Where: 1217B 9 Ave SE, Calgary
Time: 7:30 PM
Cost: Free
PUPPET POP-UP
Make you own puppet and then attend a workshop on voice manipulation and ventriloquism. Sounds great, but are we going to just totally ignore the 200 movies that suggest that an event like this will end in horror? Yeah? Okay this is fine. Everything is fine.
When: Saturday, January 18th
Where: Chinook Mall, 6455 Macleod Trail, Calgary
Time: 1 PM – 4 PM
Cost: Free

BEND AND BREW
We’re almost on board with this one. Say “beer” and we practically appear out of thin air! Although, we might still be in bed because this freaking event is at 10 AM on a Saturday. Is this even legal? We don’t bend that early.
When: Saturday, January 18th
Where: Inner City Brewing – 820 11 Avenue Southwest, Calgary
Time: 10 AM – 11 PM
Cost: $20
THE CUBE OF TRUTH
On Saturdays, we wear black… and bring our laptop to Chinook Mall? Join in on this peaceful static demonstration that means to “lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through a combination of local standard-practice animal exploitation footage and conversations with a value-based sales approach.” Masks (yes, masks) will be provided for those participating at the event. Sounds educational! And also very “remember, remember, the 5th of November.”
When: Saturday, January 18th
Where: Chinook Mall, 6455 Macleod Trail, Calgary
Time: 1 PM – 4 PM
