Living in Canada, you’ve probably encountered an impressive ice statue at one point or another. What you might not know is that these ice statues are made by professional artists, and every year they gather in one of Canada’s most picturesque towns to compete against one another. We’re talking about the stunning 2020 Lake Louise Ice Magic Festival.

Over the course of 12 days, ice-carving pros from across the globe gather on the grounds of the gorgeous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, competing to create the best ice sculpture. They each have a total of 30 hours to complete their entry for the festival and boy, oh boy, some of the sculptures are mind-blowing.

Each block of ice weighs upwards of 300 lbs, and contestants oftentimes will stack block after block in order to make their ice sculpture dreams come true. Obviously, this type of art is a serious labour of love.

Viewers and attendees can check out the creations for free or during paid viewing times, depending on when they go. Either way, we definitely recommend hitting this magical ice festival up and snapping a few pics.
