Whether you’re at a startup or a law firm, knowing workplace etiquette is always handy. But, have you wondered how that’s changed over the past decade? Us too, which is why we’re looking at Accountemps newest release about the do’s and don’ts of being at work.
Accountemps is a global staffing company that specializes in accounting, finance, and bookkeeping. They surveyed over 600 senior-level managers across Canada, with companies needing at least 20 employees to be included. While the consensus is that the workplace has loosened up since 2010, there are still a couple of major issues.

Swearing continues to be the most serious infraction, with 55% of respondents saying that it was and continues to be unacceptable. Sadly, bringing pets to the office is also still a big deal, as just over half say that it’s still a problem. Now, keep in mind that these are managers. They’re not exactly stoked when employee happiness goes up at the cost of productivity.

On the plus side, non-traditional piercings, tattoos, and casual work attire have all made progress. Over 30% of respondents feel that these things are no longer unacceptable in the workplace. Nice, ok, so no dogs but we can have a full sleeve. We’ll keep that in mind.
