We’re not quite in the thick of winter yet, and for that, we are thankful. In fact, Calgary just shattered the record for the second mildest low temperature for November 23rd in recorded history!
Contrary to what the winter forecast of Canada predicted for our province, which was cold, cold, and a little more cold, this Saturday was the warmest low temperature since 1890.
This is extraordinary when you look at how rare mild temps are in late November. Calgary’s average low is around -11°C and this past Saturday we saw a cozy 2.8°C.

8 things to do this week in Calgary (Nov 25 – 29)

This was 14°C above what we normally see, which is a jawdropping 35°C warmer than the Calgary record low of -32.2° set in 1900. Damn!
Don’t get too comfortable though, this doesn’t necessarily depict an increase in warmth! Three of the six times that we’ve clocked in at -30°C have been in the last 25 years.

There’s no doubt it’s only going to get colder from here, after all, we do live in Canada. According to the Weather Network, the warmer temperatures were basically an elaborate ruse by mother nature, because there’s an Arctic chill in Alberta’s immediate future. Awesome, can’t wait.
As of right now, the low for the next 14 days is a measly -11°C, and we can totally handle that! So, good luck out there, folks! Maybe by some miracle, Calgary will be spared the worst.
