2019 is brighter already! Calgary’s Festival of Lights is back on after being canceled earlier this year due to “access issues” on Confederation Golf course where it’s held.
The long-standing Christmas tradition is a staple for a ton of Calgarian light lovers. It’s been around since 1986, so some people have literally grown up on this event. If you’ve never been, this year is your year. Plus, after a scare like this, you never know what’ll happen next year.
The festival organizers were shocked earlier this June this year when they were forced to cancel because the setup and tear down were “too inflexible.” But never fear!

Be affordably festive at these low-cost holiday events

After a ton of discussions, the city and the Lions have come to a solution for both parties. Early access will be given to the Lions Festival of Lights Society so they can install and then inspect the insane 500,000-light display.
It’ll take hundreds of volunteers to inspect, test and install everything. Thanks to an early closure of the course for construction and maintenance, the society will have access on October 15th. That gives them them plenty of time to have everything perfect by the holidays and we are certainly happy to hear it.
Hopefully, this is the last time fans of the annual Festival of Lights have a scare like this. Both the Lions society and the Golf course are working on a mutually beneficial agreement going forward. In the meantime, let’s all focus on Halloween because Christmas isn’t FOR ANOTHER 3 MONTHS.
