Netflix’s Final Table chef to open sustainable sushi resto in Calgary
If you haven’t heard of ‘The Final Table‘ on Netflix then we definitely recommend that you watch it. If you have, then get hyped! Darren MacLean, owner of Shokunin in Mission and contestant on the ‘Final Table,’ is opening another Asian-inspired hotspot in Calgary! Called Greenfish Sushi, this resto is the eco-friendly brainchild of MacLean and Iron Chef Canada’s Duncan Ly.
Darren MacLean stole our hearts and made Calgary super proud on the show. His story and message were both five star, much like Shokunin. By the way, that place has been named one of Canada’s 50 best restaurants several years in a row.
Now, it looks like he’s hoping to add another to that list, and he’s hoping to do it without impacting the environment. Greta Thunberg thanks you.

Appropriately named Greenfish Sushi will be the country’s first enviro-friendly take-away sushi resto. All handmade orders, which they’ve described as “exquisitely designed,” will be served in compostable boxes. Dope, we love greener choices! According to them, “these boxes will serve as an immersive experience for guests and showcase how to eat your sushi, where it comes from and the story of Greenfish.”
And since it’s what’s on the inside that really counts, here’s the kicker. Everything in those boxes is green-listed Ocean Wise fish. This means it’s made with a long term goal in mind: to support ocean cleanup, help to end fishery poaching, and protect global coral reefs and endangered species.
A grand opening will be held this weekend. So there, now you have dinner plans. You’re welcome. Additionally, Greenfish creator MacLean will be there handing out gift cards to the Avenida food hall, which is where the restaurant will call home. Sounds like it’s going to be a tasty weekend.
