Parts of Southern Alberta will get a half-metre of snow this weekend

Via Quixiotes Last Stand

Did you have plans to hit up a pumpkin patch this weekend? Maybe get a lovely fall hike in? Haha, jokes on all of us. Southern Alberta is getting slammed with snow this weekend, with a “historic” winter storm blanketing parts of the province in a half-metre of snow. We really thought we had more time before we had to put our winter tires on.

You know we only talk about the weather with you when it’s exceptional, and this is exceptional. In the bad way. Hazardous road conditions and way more snow than we should see before December are on the radar.

Winter storm watches have been issues everywhere from Canmore to Nanton. Snowfall in the high mountains could easily hit 60cm, with Calgary expected to get anywhere from 10-20cm, depending on how the storm moves. Also, expect the first subzero temperatures of the season! Not yay!

According to the city’s snow removal plan, roads with high traffic like Crowchild and Glenmore will be getting plowed first.

As for us, we’ll be reluctantly making a snowman and wiping our tears with our mittens.
