The NHL just got their first ever female pro scout

Hockey season is upon us, and we’ve got hockey news! The NHL has hired their first-ever female pro scout and she’s a total badass. Bout friggin’ time. Let’s check it out!
Alas, her name is Cammi Granato, and she’s coming onto the scouting team for the new Seattle expansion team. She lives in Vancouver currently, and she’s got a hockey resume a mile long. Think two Olympic medals, enough World Championship medals to fill a bucket, and a stack of 4 Nations Cup wins and Pacific Rim Championships to boot. Bow down to the queen.
“I know the game, and I’m confident in that,” Granato said in an interview with Emily Kaplan of ESPN.

“I’ve been around the game since I can walk. It’s really cool to be able to do it as a job and I’m looking forward to contributing my opinion.”
The International Hockey Hall of Fame member (oh, another accolade!) also went on to say, when asked why women have not traditionally gone into scouting, “I think we could probably ask that question about so many things in sports. Maybe even more than sports. Why? There isn’t really an answer besides they weren’t considered.”
Further, she remarked, “right now, I feel there is this energy and momentum and you’re seeing women in different positions getting jobs they are qualified for, but never got the opportunity for.” Congrats, Cammi!
