Good news folks, Calgary has once again been named one of the most liveable cities in the world. Moreover, 3 Canadian cities have placed in the top 10, with Vancouver coming in at 6 and Toronto sitting at 7. It’s a good time to be living in Canada. We shouldn’t brag, but it does feel good to be at the top.
The Economist’s Intelligence Unit ranked liveability across five broad factors: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. The closer to 100 a city gets, the more it is considered an ideal location.

With an overall score of 97.5, it’s safe to say that The Economist deems Calgary liveable. But, we’re only beating Vancouver by 0.2 and Toronto by 0.3. It’s a pretty tight grouping amongst the cities, we have to admit.
The top 10 cities haven’t changed from 2018, although there was a little shuffling in the list. Vienna, Austria, continues its streak at number 1, while Adelaide rounds off the list at number 10. We’re tied with Australia at 3 countries in the top 10, so that’s pretty solid as well.
Out of the 140 cities ranked, Damascus in Syria is at the bottom, with a score of 30.7 overall. If you’re curious about seeing the other rankings, you can get a preview on The Economist’s website.
