Another step in the world of legalization in Canada will arrive in October of 2019 when edible marijuana products will hit the National market.
That’s right, folks! Space cakes, brownies, hash cookies, gummies, and more will be legally available at dispensaries and on online stores come fall. But, it’s not all tasty treats and the good vibes that come with it, there are a lot of legal hurdles that will still need to be crossed. Here’s what you need to know about legalized edibles in Canada:
More than Food
Sure, the idea that plenty of goodies will be available to snack on and buzz from is a pretty nice one, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg when edibles are legalized. Along with all of the pot-filled pastries that you’ll be able to snack on, cannabis creams, patches, gum, and more are fully expected to arrive on the market as well.

The Market is Huge
We’ve all seen massive cannabis companies like Aurora, Canopy, and Aphria, amongst others, hit billion-dollar market caps on the stock market. Heck, if you had the foresight to invest early you might have even made some Canadian greenbacks off the back of Canadian green.
That being said, demand for the product drives the value of these companies, and a lot of Canadians don’t want to smoke weed whether it’s legal or not.
Edibles, however, might indeed solve this problem and up the level of Canadian consumers. Deloitte actually ran a survey and discovered that 60% of Canadians would be more likely to use edibles than smoke marijuana. That’s a lot of potential brownie-buyers, people!
What Happens Next
Of course, there will be a lot of discussion over THC levels and the amount of edibles you can buy/store etc. But, until all of that gets hashed out by the government (pun very intended), we’ll all just have to sit tight with our grandmother’s weed-free recipes.
