Alright, folks. It looks like we’re not out of the woods yet! Despite making progress, Mayor Naheed Nenshi and city officials have announced that Calgary’s state of emergency will be extended 90 more days.

Our current state of emergency was put into place in November of last year and now will continue into the early spring. Of course, as we’ve said before this is no reason to panic.

According to Sue Henry, chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency, keeping our current state active will allow the city to be better positioned for the upcoming provincial vaccine rollout as part of phase 1B. This new phase, which was announced last week, will expand vaccinations to all Albertans who are ages 75 and older.

Now, although there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we’ve still got a ways to go.

“Far too many of our neighbours and friends are still at a great risk,” Nenshi said during the conference. ‘We’re called upon yet again, to continue to show discipline, to continue to look after one another and to continue to make sure that we’re keeping one another safe.”

As always, we want to remind you guys that we can and will get through this! Please be safe, be smart and wash your dang hands. This will not last forever!
