What goes with a picnic and sunny afternoon in one of Calgary’s fave places? Shakespeare by the Bow! Soak up the scenery during Theatre Calgary’s annual outdoor production. Prince’s Island Park will set the stage for a magnificent showing of one of Shakespeare’s classic plays performed by Alberta’s emerging artists.

Descend the grassy hill of Prince’s Island Park and nestle in for a delightful 90 minutes of wonder and amusement that has been captivating audiences for years. Theatre Calgary’s annual Shakespeare by the Bow is a summertime classic set to entertain Calgarians and visiting tourists with over six whole weeks of Shakespearian merriment.

This summer, celebrate one of Shakespeare’s most popular works, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This thrilling chase of love, identity, and confusion will capture your attention as you’re whisked away on a magical journey. Follow the lives of four lovers and a group of six amateur actors. Be enthralled as the cast meanders through the forest while being influenced and manipulated by a band of forest-dwelling fairies.

As an ode to the new and emerging artists on the scene, Theatre Calgary aims to nurture up-and-coming talent looking to grace the Calgary and beyond art and entertainment scene. With guidance of its professional expertise, Theatre Calgary mentors and encourages the next generation of artists to embark on their professional career and flourish in their industry.

ADMISSION & ENTRY

Shakespeare by the Bow is a family friendly event and admission is free. But not so fast there! Admissions may technically be free, however, donations are welcome. They are after all, the way that Theatre Calgary keep their programs and productions running. Allowing for more training of Alberta’s up-and-coming youth. Support emerging talent by donating with cash, or tapping your debit and credit cards.
