British Open Golf Champ is hosting an Irish Pub Night in Calgary

Well, mark this down as the luck of the Irish, folks. Darren Clarke, the man who won the PGA’s 2011 British Open, is coming to Calgary at the end of August for the Shaw Charity Classic. Also, in true Northern Irelander fashion, Clarke will be hosting an Irish pub night while he’s here.
The 50-year-old golf pro will be setting up shop at Ceili’s Pub (351 4th Ave SW) on Thursday, August 29th. He’ll run folks through a little lesson on how to pour the perfect pint, a skill all Irish citizens are gifted with at birth. Afterward, he’ll sit down with local media personality Eric Francis for some good old sports talk.
Heck, a pub night with a legend like this sounds like a can’t-miss event. Here’s the silver fox himself singing Calgary’s praises and announcing his return to the Shaw Classic.

Clarke played on the PGA tour from 1990 until 2017, then jumped straight into the PGA Champions Tour (available to players 50 and over) last year. As Clarke mentioned, the 2018 Shaw Charity Classic was only his second-ever tournament on the Champions Tour. Obviously, he left with a great impression of the city, so let’s make sure to greet him with a very warm welcome and very cold beer.
Other members of the Shaw Charity Classic field include PGA Hall of Famer Mark O’Meara, three-time Champions Tour major winner Colin Montgomerie, two-time US Open winner Retief Goosen, and two-time PGA major winner Bernhard Langer. Actually, the field is incredibly impressive, so we’d recommend getting tickets ASAP.
