Home of the Week: 50 shades of gorgeous gray in Mount Royal

Via Sotheby's Realty Canada

We might not live anywhere prestigious, but we sure like creeping prestigious places on real estate websites. The Curiocity Calgary Home of the Week is back and we’ve picked out a gem from the aforementioned creeping we want to share. It’s on one of Mount Royal’s fanciest streets, which means the closest we’ll ever get to it is when we walk past after a Made by Marcus run. Trim the landscaping down so us peasants can enjoy from the street, why don’t ya?

We’re at 1333 Montreal Ave SW, in the heart of one of those twisty streets where you almost knock out a kid on their bike because you’re trying to snag a view of the homes. Don’t house creep and drive, pals. These avenues are irregularly shaped and your Jetta doesn’t need to end up in someone’s manicured rose bush.

From the street, it’s sort of an expensive-looking lego home. Much modern, very square! Such 90-degree angles! The neutral colour scheme flows throughout since nothing is going to tip off the dinner guests that you’re actually new money like a garish accent shade of red. Tasteful choices galore!

One of the few not-gray things in the home is the kitchen. It’s done in rich wood and brown tones, so our errant spray of hoisin sauce should blend right in. The island is plenty huge and the actual stone itself is quite the thicc boi, lending further to the fancy vibe of the house.

The rooms are tasteful and cozy, and they probably smell like lavender or some expensive stuff. Have you ever noticed how good your rich friend’s homes smell? It’s like they diffuse essential oils through the vents or something. We’re hoping it’ll literally rub off on us because we forgot to buy deodorant at the store this week. Oh well.

The glass door between the master bedroom and the ensuite is going to be a true test to the strength of your marriage. However, you can always escape to the backyard oasis for a little privacy if ya need.

The same slabby slab decks out the double sink vanity. Also, the rich wood makes another appearance down in the basement, on the massive entertainment wall. Nothing frames a huge TV quite like oak and expensive knick-knacks, right?

Oh, that’s just our collection of signed NFL game balls. Move them next to the autographed John Lennon biography if you’re having trouble getting at the DVD collection.

Your private study looks over the street, so you’re free to creep on the riff-raff below as you ignore emails. Wait, who are we kidding? There’s no riff-raff in a place like this. You’ll be watching the likes of a stray mini Goldendoodle or the neighbour’s 16-year-old clipping a mailbox in their Mercedes G-Wagon more likely.

The other 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms help to round out the 2,458 square feet. Not as spacious as you might find in the ‘burbs, but that’s the price of inner-city living!

What else is the price of inner-city living? About $2,197,000. For a home on this street, it’s actually not too bad! We’ll be admiring it from the sidewalk.
