The big dogs at Contiki Tours have released another report detailing the top 7 summer travel destinations for 2019. And we have to admit- they kind of hit the nail on the head with this one. Most of our friends have gone or want to go to at least one of these spots.
Here are the top 7 travel destinations for young Canadians.
Greek Islands

We’re talking Mykonos, Santorini and Ios, here. You know, the super hilly ones with the gorgeous white-walled dwellings. We wonder how they keep the towns so gosh darn clean. Share your secrets with us, Mykonos, we’re ready.
Africa

To name a continent as a destination is kind of silly (next year’s pick- Asia), but whatever. We’ve got friends who have gone glamping in South Africa or Tanzania and they absolutely loved it. This is definitely one of the spots where you have to plan everything out, though.

Ireland

We’re about to piss some people off here (mainly our Irish editor), but we prefer Scotland. That said, Ireland is a gorgeous country that is seeing a resurgence in artisan goods, plus has a fantastic food scene. Also, every person who loves Guinness needs to visit the brewery at least once, no?
Italy

Well, yeah, of course, Italy is going to be on here. From Rome to Florence to Venice and beyond, Italy is a country that is worth exploring for weeks at a time. It’s got all kinds of climates, a crazy diverse heritage, and arguably the world’s best food. Just pray that your friend doesn’t go gluten-free for the summer.
Thailand

Thailand is another extremely popular destination for our friend group. You know what they say- you’re not a true millennial if you don’t black out one day then have a deep, spiritual experience the next. And folks, Thailand is the top choice for that, let’s not kid ourselves.
Spain

Similar to Italy, we’d say. Visit a metropolis like Barcelona or Madrid before checking out what’s going on in the countryside. Also, the tapas bars here are second to none. A Curiocity employee will be in Barcelona this summer, and is going to consume a lifetime’s worth of vermouth and conservas.
Peru

If we had to pick a top destination, it would be a toss-up between Africa and Peru. Come on, who doesn’t want to see the ruins of an ancient civilization in an absolutely gorgeous country? Pair that with an amazing culture and delicious cuisine, and you’ve got a winner.
So, those are apparently the 7 top destinations for young Canadians this summer! If your friends are being a little timid about living it up, then maybe consider Contiki Tours to get out there. As for us? Catch us solo in Tokyo.
