Ahhhh, springtime. Or in Calgary’s case, a weird mix of winter/spring called sprinter (wintring?). We usually get double digit weather in between dumps of snow, but hey– when the sun does come out, you bet you’ll find us on a Calgary patio. Us Calgarians roll with the punches, so keep reading for 8 places you’ve gotta check out while the forecast looks prime.
Dairy Lane Cafe

Look, we’re not saying you should play hooky and take in the double-digit temps with some Dairy Lane avo toast, but it’s certainly not a bad idea either. Take advantage of those vitamin D-filled mornings, people!
Where: 319 19 St NW
One Night Stan’s

Is the correct way to celebrate spring by doing Jell-O shots? Maybe, maybe not– but we’re not here to judge you. Stan’s has also got the first dog-friendly patio on all of 17th Ave, so if you’re looking to soak up some sunshine with your pet pal, this should be your go-to.
Where: 520 17 Ave SW
Broken City

This is absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best patios in Calgary. It’s on a rooftop, on a neat little strip of a very underrated street, and if you’re looking for atmosphere then listen up muchachos, this is your spot. Craft beers, good tunes, and great people. It’s all you can hope for and more.
Where: 613 11 Ave SW
Elbow Room

Date-night, dudes’ outing, girls’ day, doesn’t matter! Any time is a good time if you’re ending up at the Elbow Room, and one of the best parts of this Britannia staple is the patio. If you’re looking for a little pick-me-up to keep the good vibes going then order the Verdita-rita. Don’t ask, just do it.
Where: 802 49 Ave SW
Ricardo’s Hideaway

Aching for a vacation down in the Caribbean? Too bad, pal. This is the real world. You can’t just take a week off and rip down to the beach for a million Pina Coladas and a tan, but you can rip down to Ricardo’s for a dozen rum cocktails. It’s a compromise, but not a half bad one at all.

Midtown Kitchen & Bar

If you’re looking for a doggo-friendly Kensington spot, Midtown’s a great place to enjoy the spring rays. Stop in for a bite or a beer or both and don’t hesitate to ‘gram your pet wearing sunglasses (that’s good content).
Where: 302 10 St NW
Ship & Anchor

It’s not particularly chill, there aren’t great views, and it’s almost guaranteed to be loud. But do you come to the Ship & Anchor for a nap? Or do you come to have drinks and endless laughs? We’re pretty sure it’s the latter because that’s exactly what the Ship patio delivers every single day.

Oak Tree Lounge

You were probably here for St. Patty’s, but if you weren’t it’s time to head over for a lil’ patio action. Pop by the street-level, dog-friendly space for a pint and a fry or 500. It’s not the biggest, and it’s not the loudest, but it’s certainly one of our favourite Calgary patios.
