So you want to do one last winter road trip, but you don’t know where to go. You’re in luck friend because the Lussier Hot Springs are free and they are calling out for you.
Located 5 hours from Calgary, the Lussier Hot Springs sit one hour south-east of Invermere, so that would be our top pick for your home base. Stay at one of the many local hotels, or bunk with your ski bum friends, and make a day trip to the hot springs. Be warned though, it is a provincial park and so you should definitely plan for variable hike conditions, even if it’s a short one.

If you’re really feeling the call of the wild, and have the vehicle/equipment to handle it, then consider doing some winter camping in the one campsite that’s open year-round on Whiteswan Lake. Snowshoe around a little bit, maybe go ice fishing and pretend you’re Dick Proenneke for a couple of days. Your grandkids will thank you for the story years down the line.
Regardless of the approach that you choose on your way to Lussier Hot Springs, you’ll be glad that you decided to make the most of this winter, and that you chose something a little off the beaten path to boot.
