We might be spending $400 mill on a new project! No, it’s not an arena… but yes, it’s still cool. Revamped plans for an expansion of the Arts Commons were just released, which means potential new arts venues for Olympic Plaza! Yaaaay!

And if your ideal living situation includes shacking up on top of a theatre, then you’re in luck. This new project also includes a residential tower, which means that we could be getting some much-needed downtown residential densification.

The 34-year-old Arts Commons could definitely use a facelift since its overuse has contributed to premature aging. In fact, venues like the Jack Singer are in use an average of 229 days per year (a whole lot more than most), so it’s looking a lil bit decrepit. Don’t tell it we said that.

However, this whole shebang isn’t a sure thing. The Arts Commons revamp has to compete with a number of other projects that are considered priorities, so we’ll have to stay tuned to see if it gets the green light. When we know, you’ll know, Calgs!
