Calgary’s sweetest event, YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, is back for its 10th year, folks and wowza, is it going to be a tasty one.
As most of you know, this February, local businesses all over the city will be competing in a mellow-to-mellow royale of cocoa, cups, and creativity. From wild to traditional and everything in between, we’ve seen some pretty crazy concoctions and 2021 is no exception!
Of course, also like every year before this one, there are a few that really stand out – so let’s take a look at this year’s most unique! Here are 5 must-try drinks from this year’s YYC Hot Chocolate Fest.
BEA’S CAFE – LOVE ME TENDER HOT CHOCOLATE
Featuring dark chocolate, cream and vanilla, then finished with a Chantilly cream house-made gold-painted candy bark and chocolate shavings, this picture-perfect cocoa looks like our 5th-grade birthday party in a cup, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. Sip yourself silly at Bea’s Cafe in Inglewood!

No, that wasn’t a typo! Kaffee Klatsch’s 2021 creation is a vibrant take on traditional hot chocolate, that looks just as good as it tastes. Covered in maraschino cherries, this black forest mocha might be a nightmare to order but is absolutely worth the verbal struggle.

LAZY LOAF & KETTLE – RED VELVET HOT CHOCOLATE
Fall in love with Lazy Loaf’s Red Velvet Hot Chocolate. Made with red velvet chocolate sauce, cherry flavour, your choice of steamed milk, then topped with cream cheese whipped cream (Uhm, wow), red chocolate curls, and a chocolate drizzle, this one is an absolute DREAM.

EUPHORIA CAFE – BUTTERBEER HOT CHOCOLATE
Taste the magic at Calgary’s Euphoria Cafe! This creamy homage to JK Rowlings Harry Potter is a butterscotch beauty made with melted chocolate and steamed milk then topped with sapphire sprinkles and even a magic wand.

SAUCE ITALIAN MARKET – STAMPEDE MINI DONUT HOT CHOCOLATE
They’ve done it, Calgary. They’ve captured July and put it in a cup! Combining the flavours of chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla Sauce Italian Market has recreated everyone’s favourite Stampede snack, but as if that didn’t sound delicious enough, they’ve also topped the drink with two actual mini donuts, which they made in house. Drool.

This year $1 of each choco sold in the non-spirit category and $2 from every cup entered in the spirited category, will go towards supporting the event organizers Calgary Meals on Wheels; an organization dedicated to providing nutritious meals to those in need.
