Whoops! It’s only been a week since the City of Calgary placed several distance-friendly community fire pits and unfortunately (or fortunately, if you’re the glass half full type) it was so popular that they actually had to suspend its booking system. Turns out, people respond really well to “free.”

According to CBC News, the city received over 500 requests since they announced that they would be placing temporary pits in various public parks across Calgary.

This was done in hopes of encouraging people to gather outdoors with friends and family ahead of the holiday season… because ya know, we’re not allowed to do that indoors for the time being. Thanks, COVID.

Luckily for those who were hoping to roast a mellow around the fire with their pals, booking was back up and running this morning.

Fire pits can be used anytime between 9 am and 9 pm, or can be booked between the hours of 12 am to 3 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm every day of the week. As for the firewood? Bundles will be available at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary from Thursday through Saturday, 12 pm to 4 pm.
