Calgary’s festive & creepy Nightmare on 1st Street pop-up has arrived for the holidays

Are typical Christmas-themed events a little too, well, cheerful for you? It’s no secret that the holidays can be a lot, so having a spot to take the edge off in a very unique way is pretty damn nice. Enter Shelter, one of Calgary’s best cocktail bars, and the perfect place to play host to Nightmare on 1st Street.

Nightmare on 1st Street is a Christmas-themed pop-up cocktail bar that uses Shelter’s famously dark decor to make a wonderfully creepy AND festive spot. It pays homage to one of the best Christmas films ever (Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas) and has transformed into a holiday paradise for all of December.

Plus, Shelter is offering a ’12 Days of Christmas’-style holiday cocktail selection. So not only will you be surrounded by Shelter’s own version of holiday cheer, but you’ll be cheers-ing Shelter’s own holiday cocktails.

This sounds scarily festive, folks.

Best of all, this is a Calgary-based pop-up cocktail bar. It’s not licensed from an American company or making its rounds around Canada. Nope, it’s Calgary-born and Calgary-based, which we all know is pretty important in 2020.

Finally, guest chef Chris Picek will be in the Shelter kitchen firing up a special menu all holiday season.
