NHL teams have unveiled the new ‘reverse retro’ jerseys for next season

Via Adidas & NHL

Oh, wow. On Monday, the NHL unveiled new takes on retro jerseys for all 31 teams in the league. These will be an additional set of alternate jerseys for teams to wear, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we see them often. Honestly, there’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s dive right in! The new jerseys, created by Adidas, offer everything from classic homages to wild colourways, and even jerseys of teams from past eras.

The first team to catch our eyes was the Colorado Avalanche. Why? Well, they’re bringing back the Quebec Nordiques logo, but in an Avalanche colourway. On a similar note, the Carolina Hurricanes have brought back the Hartford Whalers jersey as well.

Most of the Canadian teams have chosen relatively tame options. But, we’re happy to see Calgary bring back the infamous ‘Flaming Horse’ logo from the early 2000s. They’ll look good facing off against an early Oilers jersey, which is a nod to Gretzky’s first season in the NHL.

Toronto brought back its jersey from 1970, which is the second oldest year of inspiration (the Blackhawks went all the way back to 1940). And on the other end, the Canucks have the youngest, choosing to put a dip-dye effect of a 2001 jersey.

Finally, our personal tastes have us leaning towards the zany, out-there designs from the Ducks and the Coyotes. From the Wild Wing mascot to cacti lining the bottom, the Ducks and the Coyotes are at the top of our limited edition jersey list. Number 1? The Grateful Dead collabs from the Avs.
