This could be exciting news, folks!  Prime Minister Trudeau announced today that the government has signed a contract with a Canadian company to purchase 76 million doses of a “promising” COVID-19 vaccine for distribution in early 2021.

This particular vaccine was developed in Quebec City by biotech company Medicago, in partnership with British Company, GlaxoSmithKline; and according to both parties, the pre-clinical results show that the vaccine was able to neutralize a high level of antibodies after only a single dose.

This is insanely impressive, but it’s important to remember that this doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing.

First, the vaccine must perform well in a clinical setting. If they are successful, then they will be on track to make it available.

Now although it would be cool to have a Canadian-made vaccine – if it doesn’t work, we do have a few backups. Trudeau has also signed contracts with several other pharma giants including AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer.

To simplify, IF all are successful, Canada will have secured 358 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, which sounds excessive, but neat, we guess?

Like all of you, our fingers are crossed, but we’re not holding our breath. We’re the ‘hope for the best, plan for another year of wearing masks’ type, but hey, who the hell knows what will happen. Right?
